ONLINE UTILITY SOFTWARE

3

Internet software to assist with teacher utilities. I like online utility software for its ease of use and the ability to share resources with other teachers across the globe.

Elements I look for in online utilities are ease of use, ability to save my work, password protection, results that can be e-mailed and the ability to share curriculum with others. Here are my favorites.

FILAMENTALITY - This online software assists in building web activities ranging from a Treasure Hunt to a webquest. All teacher-made materials can be saved and accessed via password. http://edweb.sdsu.edu/web quest/

FUNBRAIN QUIZ LAB - Select a readymade quiz for students to use as a pretest or post-test on curricular content, or design your own quiz as a review. All choices are password-protected. Results can be e-mailed to you. www.funbrain.com/quiz/

INTERNET TOOLS - iTeach from Tom Snyder offers online tools to help cut preparation time. Essential Math Puzzles, Word Puzzles, Math Worksheets and Word Worksheets let teachers create their own or select a pre-made puzzle/worksheet according to objective, subject or grade level. Print Preview lets you see the puzzle and modify it before printing. A yearly subscription for all the tools is $49.95. www.iteach.com/

Software companies are beginning to focus on tools to assist teachers with the preparation that meeting standards requires. Here are some of my favorites.

INTERNET COACH PUZZLE CENTER This product from APTE software is both an online puzzle maker and a cDRom program for many types of puzzles, from anagrams to word searches. ht://puzzles.apte.com/

ESSENTIAL TOOLS FOR TEACHERS Here are CD-ROM tools from Tom Snyder. Essential Worksheets uses a 33,000 word dictionary for definitions and sentences. Essential Teacher Tools is a comprehensive set of tools for creating worksheets, crosswords, tests and flashcards. www.tomsnyder.com/

TIME4TEACHERS - Time4Teachers offers over 400 blackline masters for language arts, with forms for name tags, desk strips, borders and class lists. Masters can be modified before printing, and the cursor provides notes on how to use each master. www.time4teachers.com
