Talk about lucky!
Teaching Pre K-8, Aug/Sep 2002 by Broderick, Patricia, Raymond, Allen
The subscriber who receives this package has won the jackpot! The product is National Reading Styles Institute's Power Reading Paks, primer through grade eight. The primer sets and those for grades seven and eight are new.
The set provides 20 audio tapes (20 stories) at each level, (recorded with Marie Carbo's famous method), story questions, a teacher's guide and answer keys. In addition, Dr, Marie Carbo, originator of the concept of reading styles, has included a gift for your principal: What Every Principal Should Know About Teaching Reading. This 198-page handbook will enable you not only to have the principal on your side day-to-day, but a strong ally in the development of this vital area of the curriculum in your school.
Marie is the creator of the Reading Style Inventory' and the developer of the Carbo Recorded-Book' method. She has been a classroom teacher and learning-disabilities specialist. She's just "good people." Her aim, plain and simple, is to help teachers help kids learn to read, and read with facility.
The story tapes, recorded with a slow pace and special phrasing, will help you to meet those goals that appear on state standards. Each tape includes questions based on main idea, vocabulary context, cause and effect and lots more. Questions for grade four and higher are more complex so they are recorded to help the struggling reader.
Of course, there are reproducible copies of all of the stories available for each level. You can check www.nrsi. com for story samples.
We can't say enough good things about this company, nor about Marie. You can't go wrong with any of her material or seminars. These materials are an investment in the reading health of your school for years to come. Each level of the Power Pak is $129.95 (primer has two sets, $129.95 each). All plus s/h. How- ever, there are grade groupings available at substantial savings. Write for Marie's catalog of lots of other good material, too, or call 800-331-3117.
