Tolerance.org "Mix It Up" Grants

Sponsored by Southern Poverty Law Center's www.tolerance.org website, these small grants enable youths to undertake an activist project focused on identifying and challenging social boundaries in schools and communities.

DEADLINE Ongoing. Grantees will be notified within 10 school days.

FUNDS Grants are $250 each.

ELIGIBILITY Student-directed projects in public or private schools or community organizations.

AREAS Preference is given to projects created by youth activists; collaborative efforts that cross social boundaries; and efforts that continue beyond the grant period to challenge social boundaries.

TIP The second annual "Mix It Up at Lunch Day," a day in which students can swap seats in their school cafeterias to break down some of the social barriers that divide them in their daily lives, is scheduled for November 18, 2003. Inspired Teacher Scholarships

Sponsored by Inspiration Software, Inc., an education-software publisher, these awards honor educators who integrate visual learning into their curricula.

DEADLINE March 1, 2004

FUNDS The company will award 30 scholarships of $750 each to be used to attend workshops, conferences or graduate courses focusing on visual learning and technology in education.

ELIGIBILITY K-12 or postsecondary educators with at least one year of service.
