In assessing the reasons for the Burlington airport's record-setting performance, however, "it all starts with the scheduled air carriers," Hamilton says. He mainly attributes the rapid rise in passenger counts - from less than 1 million in 2002, to 1.2 million last year, to a projected 1.4 million this year - to the low-cost carriers JetBlue Airways and Independence Air.
"They've made it possible for many more people to fly to and from Burlington," Hamilton points out.
