Gone to the dogs...and the cats
Southern Living, Nov 1996 by Campbell, Dana Adkins
Our Foods staff takes pride in its knowledge of trends, techniques, and taste when it comes to our daily ritual of testing. We recently worked on a holiday story for homemade pet treats, and we had to tap into our critter resources: our own cats and dogs. After feeding them our creations side-by-side with commercial pet treats, we got the paws-up or down results.
Test Kitchens staffer Vanessa Ward said her chocolate Lab, Shelby, forgot his manners and reached right onto the kitchen counter to snag our homemade versions. Assistant Foods Editor Denise Gee told us, "My littlest dog, Jolie, preferred the cat treats. But Jolie thinks she's a cat anyway." Julia Dowling reported that all of her dogs preferred our recipes, voicing disgust over the store-bought goodies. "They actually snorted," Julia marveled. Look for the pet-popular results of our scientific research in our newsstand issue of Home for the Holidays, on sale until December 31.
