Forest Glen

Southern Living, Aug 1997 by Joyner, Louis

In the Forest Glen plan, the study is close enough to the front door so it could be used as a home office, parlor, or-with only a slight alteration-a second downstairs bedroom or nursery. And the study is far enough away from the family room to provide sound separation, allowing it to be used for quiet reading or as a music room.

Master Suite

Located on the main floor, the master bedroom includes a sitting area set in a gently bowed window. Like other windows on the first floor, these extend to 8 feet above the floor. Downstairs doors, too, have an 8-foot head height. These higher doors and windows are more in scale with the 10-foot or taller ceiling heights downstairs. On the outside, having all doors and windows set to the same height gives a more unified look.

In the spacious master bath, separate vanities flank a corner whirlpool tub. One vanity is 36 inches high, convenient for standing use; the other vanity is 30 inches high, suitable for seated use. The vanity tops are made of sand-blasted glass and have self-rimming sinks.
