Poplar grove

Southern Living, Aug 2001 by Jernigan, Sarah

A shared full bath connects this room to a second bedroom designed to accommodate a college-age girl. Variations of file, both on the floor and tub surround, add style and distinction to ordinary surfaces.

This sizable bedroom is well suited to older children. It offers plenty of natural light and a nice view of the community green space. There is enough wallspace to accommodate a variety of furnishings for studying, sleeping, and relaxing.

HERE ARE SOME DEFINING DETAILS THAT ASSOCIATE HOMES EDITOR SARAH JERNIGAN DISCOVERED AT POPLAR GROVE.

1. DECORATIVE TOUCHES IN THE BATH

In the master bath, the surfaces are some of the best you can get, but the design details in the wallpaper and window treatments really give the space its charm. Less than a yard of fabric and two perfectly placed pleats are all that is needed to create this adorable shade. Wallpaper that appears to be hand painted completes the custom look. You can achieve the same effect by using rubber stamps or stencils on painted walls.

MOSAIC TILE SURROUND

There are so many decorative tiles available now that their uses are limitless. The family room fireplace features a mosaic tile surround, where an assortment of neutral-color tones adds a spark of interest to an ordinary firebox.

3. CRAFTED CUSHION

Function meets style for the built-in bench in the mudroom. Grant made a good choice for the cushion fabric, because the vertical design at the edge was used for the boxed side of the cushion. You get two different looks from one piece of fabric. It adds style and comfort in a multiuse space. Custom pillows offer additional flair.
