Our July issue is a best-of-summer sampler from us here at Southern Living. This month we introduce our Idea Houses (see the plans and locations on page 105) and present our annual Summer Suppers special section (see page 135). Also, just as sweet corn and fresh peaches arrive in local grocery stores and farmers markets, we offer great ways to help you prepare them. Check out the recipe for Creamy Fried Confetti Corn (page 173), sent in by Laurie McIntyre of Houston, and Summertime Peach Ice Cream (page 88), whipped up by Carol S. Noble of Burgaw, North Carolina. I love these kinds of summer flavors, and I think you will too.

Another part of warm-weather fun is getting out and exploring. In this issue, Dianne Young and Art Meripol take you on a beautiful adventure in West Texas, starting on page 82, while Annette Thompson and Gary Clark detail all the fun a family can have in Orlando, beginning on page 12. What a contrast the surprising splendor of the Texas Panhandle plays against a super-- active vacation destination. By the way, Orlando's Walt Disney World-the house built by a mouse-ranked among the top attractions selected by Southern Living readers for the magazine's annual Readers' Choice Awards last year. To cast your own vote in the next poll, turn to page 54.
Finally, I can't think of a better idea in July than to celebrate the glories of one of the loveliest garden flowers of summer: the zinnia. When you read the story about the Peaden family of Elberta, Alabama (see page 68), you will want to plant, cut, or buy a bunch of zinnias yourself to honor this family-farm experience and slice of Americana.
