Relax on the Lake

Southern Living,  Aug 2005  by Austin, Farrah

Dream a little sweeter with gourmet breakfasts, plush rooms, and lakeside amenities at Lookout Point Lakeside Inn.

An August sun settles on Lake Hamilton. Rays stretch across the water like gold fingers. Ray Rosset, co-owner of Lookout Point Lakeside Inn in hot Springs, Arkansas, sits in his pontoon boat and glances at his watch. "This is the best time of day," he says, admiring the sunset.

It's eight o'clock a magical hour at Lookout Point and on Lake Hamilton. The property effortlessly upstages some of the area's most visited resort hotels, with its comfortable rooms, lakeside views, and gorgeous grounds. A beautiful blend of water, architecture, comfort, and style, Lookout Point embraces the very best of its natural surroundings.

Spirit of Arkansas

This gem sits just off State 7 A small meditation labyrinth, delicate reck formations, falling water, and blooming flowers dominate the grounds

"The labyrinth is a form of walking meditation," says Ray. "It's modeled after the original found in France's Chartres Cathedral." Only 39 feet across, the labyrinth is the creation of his wife, Kristie, an ordained minister, and landscape designer Liz Frazier.

Come On In

Inside, patrons find 10 rooms named for Arkansas places such as Evening Shade, Calico Rock, and Pocahontas. "The name sets the tone for the room's decor," says Kristie. Soft purples and deep greens outfit Evening Shade, which has a patio overlooking the lake.

You won't find antique fixtures or grandma's quilts draped across the beds. Luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding blesses travelers with sound sleep. Spacious bathrooms give guests a firstrate experience.

In the mornings, Ray and Kristie serve everything from a poached pear appetizer to smoked pork chops and French toast.

For a cocktail on the lake at sunset, Ray provides the boat and a bottle of Champagne, while Mother Nature provides the magic. FARRAH AUSTIN
