Ready, Set, Store

Southern Living,  Aug 2005  by Stratton, Ann E

Creative design made this tight bath a smart and cozy fit for guests.

Smart Solution #1:

Hanging a mirror on a tricky wall

To give their new Decatur, Georgia, home vintage charm, architects Jeff and Alison Thomas used wainscot along the bath walls and installed a picture rail for a finished look. The couple hung a framed mirror against the railing with a decorative hook. They used more hooks to display artwork on the linen cabinet wall.

Smart Solution #2:

Personalizing a room

Scenes of London; New York City; Seaside, Florida; and Bermuda create a border around the room. Each blackand-white photograph, framed and crisply matted, is a souvenir reminding the couple of places they have traveled. These images contribute to the bath's distinguished look and add a welcoming touch.

Smart Solution #3:

Creating storage

With no medicine or vanity cabinet, storage in this space could have been a problem. Instead, a tall linen cabinet takes advantage of the bath's height to provide storage room and block the water closet from view. A concealed space below the shelves reveals just enough room for cleaning products and toiletries. The pedestal sink's wide brim offers a spot for a toothbrush or makeup bag, making this bath perfectly equipped for company.
