Celebrating at Disney World
Southern Living, Sep 2005
It's a season of fun at the Magic Kingdom. Catch some highlights.
There's some extra magic at Walt Disney World Resort this fall. Make a trip for new attractions, heavenly music, and a 50th anniversary party.
This month the popular Night of Joy, back for its 23rd season, takes over the Magic Kingdom September 9-10. The event features 21 acts, including Casting Crowns, winner of the Gospel Music Association Dove Award. Also performing are newly crowned Female Vocalist of the Year Nicole C. Mullen and five-time Grammy Award-winner Steven Curtis Chapman.
The diverse lineup features pop, rock, urban, gospel, and praise and worship music. Single-night tickets are $37.95 in advance and $42.95 at the gate, if available. Night of Joy lasts from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.-after the park's regular hours. Most of the attractions remain open for audiences attending the event.
In addition to a busy season of special happenings, the "Happiest Celebration on Earth," marking the 50th anniversary of Disneyland, offers many surprises to discover. Here are some you won't want to miss.
What's New
* Soarin' at Epcot. This is the best new ride for grown-ups in years. It feels as if you're piloting a hang glider when you settle into a Ferris wheellike seat and zoom over the Napa Valley, Yosemite National Park, the Golden Gate Bridge, and other landmarks. You can smell the salt air and the pine forests when your feet brush over the treetops.
* Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show at Disney-MGM Studios. This new show, imported from Disneyland Paris, features more than 30 drivers and technicians performing action movie stunts.
* Cinderellabration at Magic Kingdom. For any princess-in-waiting, the outdoor musical at Cinderella Castle is the stuff dreams are made of. Check out Cinderella, Snow White, Jasmine, and other favorites performing onstage.
