Southern Living, Apr 2006 by Floyd, John Alex Jr
Dear Friend,
I hope you will join me in celebrating a big event with us. This year, as we have mentioned in previous months, we are celebrating 40 years of publishing Southern Living. Our talented staff thought it might be fun to tell you about 40 things across the South we think every reader should do (and I hope wants to do). So please enjoy our listing, which starts on page 14, and then visit southernliving.com/ features to add things you think our readers should do. Here's a little secret: There are 17 items on the list that I still have to do, and one of them is in my home state. I better get busy.
- Most Popular Articles in Home & Garden
- Coolest room on the block: have a bedroom that's way drab and boring? Hang ...
- Reuse, recycle, remodel: environmentally friendly materials and techniques ...
- Keeping it simple: interior designer Michael Lee finds an overdesigned ...
- House of the Year: this craftsman-inspired home is factory-built--proving ...
- Dreaming of cabin life: smart ideas for small spaces, plus the hottest spots ...

Some folks might argue with me, but I believe the music of the South records much of our heart and soul. So it is with great pleasure that we present a special section called "Soul of the South," starting on page 59. This section looks at some of the people who we think are making the best music in the region. Also, I suggest you turn to the listing on page 77 and pick out several favorite music sites to visit this spring.
April just wouldn't be April without a great outdoor party. Our theme this year is Easter and children. These inspiring ideas for entertaining can be as easy or as hard as you want. Check out "Easter Party on the Lawn" on page 138 to start making plans.
One final note: You could join us for free in Charleston, South Carolina, for the Southern Living Cook-off 2006 if your recipe is selected as a finalist. This event is part of our anniversary celebration. Entering is as simple as visiting southernliving.com/features.
Thank you for reading Southern Living, a magazine for which I am proud to be Editor.
Best regards,
