simple and sleek

Southern Living,  May 2006

All it takes is some common lumber, a sawhorse bracket kit, and a little imagination to make this uncommonly good-looking desk It measures 2 feet deep x 5 feet long, but you can vary the size according to your needs. You could also use it as a handsome sofa table or buffet.

Just follow kit instructions to assemble the sawhorses. (We added 2 x 4 and 1 x 3 bracing between the legs for stability.) Dress up the inexpensive lumber by beveling the edges with a router and drilling holes and tapping in 1-inch carriage bolt heads. Sand the wood smooth, and paint it any color you like.

Top with a piece of glass, a sheet of trimmed plywood, or even a lightweight door; then accessorize to suit your personality. Quick and affordable, this table will stand out wherever it's used.
