Gifts From The Market

Southern Living,  May 2007

Find the right finishing touches here to make your outdoor spaces shine.

Whether you're on a mission to find the perfeet bloom or just browsing for spring's newest inspirations, this garden shop makes the ideal stop to while away an hour. Located in Knoxville's Bearden neighborhood, The Flower Market has been helping customers create magical gardens for 25 years.

Ask the Experts

"We try to set ourselves apart from the big-box stores," says owner Pam Douglass. She buys from local growers and hires only experienced horticulturists. Staffers include garden experts, floral designers, and landscapers. You can hire them to spruce up your home and yard or ply them with questions about do-it-yourself projects.

Special Accents

Pop into the walk-in cooler to select fresh-cut flowers for your own custom arrangement. Peruse the container room for ceramic and iron pots, white wicker baskets, and charming bird feeders. In addition to plenty of flowers and plants, this shop stocks an array of gifts for the green of thumb.

The only thing more relaxing than wandering among aisles of spring flowers is doing so with a glass of wine in hand. From 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, the shop thanks customers with a small, complimentary wine-and-cheese reception.

The Flower Market: 4520 Old Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919; www.knoxvilleflowermarket. com or (865) 584-1679.
