This book is W Braun's doctoral dissertation accepted by the University of Toronto in 1993. In chap. I B. reflects on the correct interpretation of the data in Luke 14:1-24 and calls for a "comprehensive, coherent and historically plausible proposal." In chap. 2 he outlines several standard assumptions about Luke as an author and provides an initial reading of Luke 14:1-24.
In chaps. 3-6 B. contends that a historical understanding of this pericope depends on appreciating the cultural values, common social and economic realities, and popular moral views and traditions of first-century Mediterranean peoples. In fact,...
