Cipro I.V.: Cleared for new indications

Did you know that the antibiotic Cipro I.V. ciprofloxacin) has several new important indications? Already prescribed for mild to moderate lower respiratory, skin and skin structure, bone and joint, and other infections, Cipro I.V. (Bayer Corp. is now also indicated for:

severe lower respiratory infections caused by Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and other organisms

severe skin and skin structure infections caused by E coli, K pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, P. aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus methicillin-susceptible), Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pyogenes, and other organisms severe bone and joint infections caused by Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens, or P. aeruginosa

mild, moderate, or severe nosocomial pneumonia caused by H. influenzae or K. pneumoniae.

The recommended adult dosage is 400 mg I.V. every 8 hours for all of the new indications. I
