The tenth annual Dyke Art Encompment...
(DARE) will be held June 28, 1998 to July 5, 1998 (Sunday to Sunday) at Rootworks, wooded women's land near Sunny Valley in Southern Oregon. One week offocused group and individual self-initiated art projects in a supportive environment. Rustic cabins, tenting space and three nourishing vegetarian meals a day are provided. The Emma Goldman Clinic has established a short term, though often unpaid, loan fund for low income women seeking abortion. They also offer their clinic and physicians as a training ground for new doctors. They present educational programs throughout the community on women's reproductive health. They work hard to take the shame out of the abortion experience. Donation are always received with much celebration at the Emma Goldman Clinic-227 North Dubuque Street, Iowa City, Iowa 52245.
Spinsters Ink Scholarship Announcement
Spinsters Ink, the well-known feminist publishing house, announces the establishment of the Spinsters Ink Young Feminist Scholarship Program as part of the Press'20^sup th^anniversary celebration of its founding in 1978. The purpose of this scholarship ts to encourage and recognize young feminists interested in writing. Beginning in 1999, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded each year to the student in her last year of high school who submits the best essay on feminism and what it means to her. The deadline is January 1, 1999. The winner and three runners-up will be announced on International Women's Day, March 8, 1999. The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college of her choice, as well as publication of her essay in a national young women's magazine -HUES (Hear Us Emerging Sisters): A Young Woman's Guide to Attitude and Power. She, as well as the three runners-up, will also be given the opportunity to attend Norcroft: A writers retreat for women during the summer of 1999.
Woman Spirit Anthology Group
(WAG) seeks your help in creating an Anthology of WOMANSPIRIT, the first magazine of feminist spirituality ( 974 1984). Readers are invited to share outstanding material you remember reading in the magazine. Daughters of the Muse. The tentatively titled, up-coming anthology, Daughters of the Muse: We Who Were Listening, will showcase poetry, photography, short stories and essays related to womyn's experience with the Womyn's Music genre. This specifically includes the Womyn's Music festivals and concerts, albums, Womyn's Music radio programming and air play. DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS AS THEY WILL NOT BE RETURNING THESE ITEMS. Please send text oriented pieces on an IBM formatted disc (if possible), and in text format. Admissions will be accepted until 10/31/98. Publication is tentatively slated for Spring of the year 2000. One In Ten is now accepting submissions Reel Affirmations 8: DC'S Annual Celebration of Gay and Lesbian Films. Reel Affirmations is one of the top four Gay and Lesbian Film festivals in U.S. and draws films from around the world. Film Producers are encouraged to submit preview video tapes of films made by and/or about Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgendered people. They especially encourage submissions from women and people of color. One in Ten is seeking features, shorts, documentaries and animated works in 33mm or 16mm film, 1/2" or 3/4" video formats. Anthology on Women's Health. Send in your stories (Maximum 12 pages) about: Your experience with the health care system. Anything or anyone that helped. Remedies that were helpful.
Emotional experience around disease, and living in the world. Medications or treatments that were negative or had bad effects. Race, gender, or sexual orientation as an issue in your health care. Anything urgent you want to share with other women. Your Diagnosis (or false diagnosis). Information you were given about the disease. Women's health care professionals are also encouraged to submit stories. All writings are confidential, and will not be passed on to anyone without your permission.
