ABUJA, NIGERIA--Zamfara, in the heavily Muslim northern part of the country, has become Nigeria's first state to adopt Sharia, or Islamic law.
Most schools have begun to separate girls and boys. Women-only taxis have been operating since last year. State authorities say that schools and transportation will be completely segregated by gender.
A number of other states in northern Nigeria are considering following suit.
