United States: new antichoice extremes

Off Our Backs, Jul/Aug 2004 by Christian, Sena, Stachowski, Roxanne, Ferden, Sara, Walter, Shoshana

"Crisis pregnancy centers" (falsely advertised as women's health centers) are popping up all over the country, their purpose being to manipulate and in some cases prevent women from having abortions. 2,500 to 4,000 of these centers already exist nationwide, often staffed by volunteers without any medical training who use antichoice propaganda, including gruesome videos and false medical claims, to prevent abortion.

Several lawsuits have been filed against one antichoice extremist (alias, "Graham"). His particularly pernicious technique is to pretend to claim to offer abortion counseling, but instead to delay returning phone calls and repeatedly postpone fake appointments until the pregnant woman is too far along in her pregnancy to be able to obtain an abortion.
