Edison State's impact on Trenton

Mercer Business, Apr 01, 1996 by Sendzimir, Arri

The Fund for New Jersey has hired the college, in partnership with NJIT, to inventory and analyze data on one of the state's fastest-growing industries -- its correctional system. This spring, the State Library will become formally affiliated with the college and subject to the college's board of trustees.

A number of professional synergies are expected to result from the college's network of relationships, including, for example, a joining of forces with Productivity Works and DeWitt & Associates, a consulting firm, to address the challenge of developing an electronic educational communications system for the blind, referred to as "the talking Web browser."

The college has also been asked to bring in its experts to examine the Atlantic City school system and to recommend improvements in curriculum instruction.

Electronic classrooms. The talking Web browser. Students in every state and around the world. Is there any limit to what this college, named after New Jersey's famous inventor, can do? In following its students to every corner of the world, Thomas Edison State College continues to reinvent itself with each new challenge. "There are no limitations," responds Dr. Pruitt. "We're arrogant enough to believe that if we don't understand an issue we can find people who do. We can go anywhere in the world with the expertise we have."
