Gov. Whitman: Mercer's location, talent bodes well for county

Mercer Business, Aug 01, 1998

Jean Turano, Mercer Business Magazine Committee:

Q. What has been your most rewarding experience as governor and what is your greatest disappointment?

A. My most rewarding experience is that both of my children graduated from high school (laughter). My greatest disappointment, I guess, is that I don't get a chance to spend much time with them. They are good kids, despite what some people might say. (The governor was apparently referring to a minor dust up her daughter had with the police when she was charged with littering and paid a fine).

Jeff Barnhardt, Mercer Business Magazine Committee:

Q. What is the status of the planned extradition of cop killer Joanne Chesimard from Cuba?

A. Unfortunately, we seem to be stalled. I have reached out to the president and have asked him to help. There are 90 fugitives in Cuba that Castro refuses to extradite. Until he (Castro) is gone, I see no hope for justice in these matters.
