Mercer--The Place for Continuing Education at all Stage sof Life

Mercer Business, Feb 01, 2007

Working adults looking to enhance their careers, and lifelong learners of all ages and interests need look no further than Mercer County Community College for their educational needs. Credit classes are set to begin for the spring semester on January 16, and non-credit classes are offered year-round.

Mercer offers 60 associate degree programs and more than 50 credit certificate programs. A wide selection of short-term noncredit courses and certificate programs meets the needs of working adults. Scheduling for both credit and noncredit classes is flexible and includes evenings and weekends.

Classes meet at the suburban West Windsor campus and the downtown Trenton James Kerney campus. Credit classes are also offered at lunchtime in downtown Trenton, while distance learning, through The Virtual Campus, provides courses via the Internet and cable TV. In addition to a 14-week credit semester, the college offers credit classes in 10-week, 7-week and 5week sessions.

Unique programs at Mercer include the new "CulinologyTM" program for those who enjoy both cooking and science. It combines the two disciplines and leads to Rutgers University's Interdisciplinary Food Science degree. Other unique programs at Mercer include Aviation Flight Technology, Exercise Science, Entertainment Technology, Ornamental Horticulture and Funeral Service.

The college is also hosting an "Explore Mercer" Open House on April 11, and an Aviation Career Night on April 18.

Without leaving Mercer's campus, students can earn a bachelor's or master's degree through Fairleigh Dickinson University, which offers courses in Business and Hospitality Management. To help other students who plan to continue their education after completing an associate degree at Mercer, the college holds dual admission agreements with eight colleges and other transfer agreements that ease the process with colleges nationwide.

Mercer's year-round noncredit courses, offered by the Center for Continuing Studies, provide abundant opportunities for career development and personal enrichment.

New this season is a series of five workshops in Inventory Management, designed for supervisors and managers in manufacturing, ware housing, distribution and operations. The first workshop takes place March 20 and 22.

In association with the Project Management Institute, Mercer is offering three classes, taught by Frank J. Gerard, an author, speaker and project management consultant with nearly 20 years of corporate training experience. The classes begin March 13.

Through Mercer's Center for Training and Development, corporations and businesses can receive training services customized for their employees. The college's high-tech Conference Center at Mercer hosts meetings and conferences for area businesses and government, and offers a tiered, 219-seat auditorium, meeting rooms and excellent cuisine.
