Mid-America Commerce & Industry, Jun 01, 2001
Livers Bronze Co., Kansas City, Missouri, is observing its 55" year in operation.
Started in 1946 by Richard Livers, Sr. and two of his brothers, the company specialized in cast plaques, markers and large castings (such as the large bronze eagles on the old Federal Building in downtown Kansas City, Missouri).
More recently, the company installed the railings at Bartle Half, One Kansas City Place, United Missouri Bank, the new Federal Building, the Sprint complex and many other buildings in the area.
Prior to WWII, the family operated Livers Lighting and Bronze Co. which designed and built lighting fixtures. Many of these are still in operation in such places as Kansas City's Music Hall and Municipal Auditorium.
Today, the metal fabrication company offers custom fabricating as well as custom architectural products and its own line of architectural products.
"We can do it all," stated Richard Livers, Jr., company president. "A customer can start with our 10 full-time engineers using Autocad 2001 and then go on to our extensive range of services to take a project from start to finish."
These services include: casting, machining (CNC and manual) finishing, polishing, painting, welding (MIG and TIG), sheet metal forming (rolling, bending, shearing, braking and vcutting) assembly and special machine manufacturing.
Moving in 1998 from its original location near Independence, Missouri, the company now operates in the Swope Park Business Park in Kansas City, Missouri. Its facilities have 120,000-sq.-ft. of space for its 95 employees.
"We highly value our employees," stated Livers. "That's why we focus on safety (OSHA and EPA) as one of our top priorities."
"When we moved three years ago we instituted a major shift in the company's approach towards a 'team-based' operation," Livers continued. "This step has really proven its worth over the last few years. It has been very important to the company."
Livers serves a diverse range of industries in its customer base including: electrical, architectural, construction, petroleum, signs and special machines.
Its equipment includes a wide range of manual and CNC pieces including: A Haas CNC Lathe with 37" diameter capacity; a Haas CNC vertical machining center with 20" x 50" production table; a Monarch T-lathe with 50" diameter swing; a 13' mechanical shear; a 13' x 138-ton hydraulic brake; a 13' Amada V-cut machine; an Amada Vipros 255 punch; a Hermes engraving machine; Roundo R1 and R4 Angle rollers; a Wallace tube bender and a small non-ferrous foundry specializing in large floor molds.
