SPEC Plating Merges With McWilliams Plating; Opens Lenexa, KS Satellite Facility

Mid-America Commerce & Industry, Jan 01, 2003

SPEC Plating, Minneapolis, Minnesota, has entered the Kansas City area by merging with McWilliams Plating, Kansas City, Missouri, and opening a satellite location for the combined companies in Lenexa, Kansas.

SPEC Plating, founded in 1993, specializes in plating, anodizing, passivation, heat-treating and chemical film on small and difficult parts.

Industries served include: electronics, avionics, medical and connector.

McWilliams Plating was founded in 1963 by H.L. McWilliams and C.W. Riley. David McWilliams, second generation of the McWilliams family, owned the operation in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.

He and his crew joined SPEC Plating in July.

"The merger was advantageous for both firms," noted Charlie Hayes, SPEC's KC general manager. "Especially when you consider our mutual customers and McWilliams' experienced crew."

SPEC Plating's KC satellite operates in a 3,000-sq.-ft. facility (with another 3,000-sq.-ft. for expansion) with a crew of six. These staffers feature an average tenure of 17 years in the industry. "We take care of our customers," stated Hayes. "We strive to find a workable solution for our customer's plating needs. Our motto is 'Yes Makes it Happen'."

Hayes also pointed out that the operation works with parts ranging in size from microscopic probe tips to 12-inch rupture disks.

Examples of parts plated by SPEC's KC operation include components for: aerospace, automotive, and circuit boards. Most work is completed and delivered by the next day.

Processes offered at SPEC Plating's KC facility include: electroless nickel; electrolytic silver; gold and palladium; rack plating; barrel plating; microbarrel plating and vibratory plating. Other process can be handled by the company's Minneapolis facility.
