NAPM-Wichita Learns About Public Sector Purchasing

The Wichita chapter of the National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM) held its February meeting at the Wichita Airport Hilton on February 8th.
The featured speaker was Iris Baker, purchasing director for Sedgwick county government.
Baker, a 14-year purchasing veteran, also belongs to the National Institute of Government Purchasing, Kansas Association of Public Purchasing Professionals, Government Finance Officers Association and the Kansas Government Finance Officers Association.
Her presentation topic was an overview of public sector procurement. She stressed the importance of open, fair and competitive bidding for the public sector. The numerous laws, regulations and policies regarding purchasing in the public sector were also discussed.
The NAPM chapter has already started the planning of the 2007 Wichita Industrial Trade Show (WITS) set for October 16-18. This will be the 17th time for this biennial event that was started in 1974.
