Cazenovia College selects Zausmer to design, build new fitness center
CNY Business Journal (1996+), Dec 07, 2001
CAZENOVIA - The Cazenovia village planning board has approved Cazenovia College's plan to add a state-of-the-art fitness center to its Schneeweiss Athletic Complex. The new fitness center will improve access for students and employees, in compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. Construction will begin soon, adding more than 5,300 square feet to the athletic complex. The new fitness center is expected to be operational in the spring. The approved cost of the project is $575,000, which includes equipment.
Zausmer, Frisch, Scruton and Aggarwal Designers and Builders of Syracuse was chosen to design and build the new addition.
"Zausmer has had extensive experience with the construction of health clubs," said Jay L. Jackler, vice president of financial affairs and director of business operations. Of Cazenovia College, he said, "We've been very pleased with their design concept and their understanding of the general requirements for layout and specific materials in fitness centers."
Jackler and Cazenovia. College President Mark John Tierno presented the plan to neighbors closest to the athletic complex to address their questions prior to the village planning board meeting at which it was approved. As discussed at the presentation, the addition will be north of the pool area, near the tennis courts, and is relatively small compared to the rest of the complex.
The new fitness center will be visible from the complex's lobby, and a glass wall will provide visibility to the swimmingpool area from the fitness center. Jackler said the fitness center would include a main level and a mezzanine level, both of which will comply with ADA requirements.
"The existing fitness center and all other areas of the athletic complex will be open to students and employees as usual during construction, and all programs will proceed as scheduled," Jackler said.
