SYRACUSE - PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLC has welcomed a new managing partner to its Syracuse firm. Patricia Civil has retired and Gary Ryan has taken her place. The two recently spoke at a reception in the Civic Center.

"Ten years ago, my predecessor hosted a reception for me," Civil said. "It's been a real privilege to have the opportunity to work with the partners, managers, and wonderful clients."

Civil joined the firm about 30 years ago, at a time when public accounting was not a profession for women, said William McAvoy, partner. "In those days, it wasn't easy for women to get ahead in the world," he said.

"She had to visit clients through the back door of the Century Club."

McAvoy spoke of Civil's "distinguished career" and her leadership ability.

"Pat really made her mark over the years," McAvoy said. "She has a great management style and was always fair."

Ryan joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1994, and two years later was admitted to the partnership. Most recently, he headed the Assurance and Business Advisory Services division.

Ryan praised Civil's commitment to the firm and the community. "Pat has been a leader to all of us," he said. "From a community standpoint, she lends her time and talent. She's a true staple in the environment in Central New York."
