CICERO - Jerry Seinfeld's got one. So does Nicolas Cage. Now, some wealthy Central New Yorker will be able to buy one too.
It is the new Porsche Carrera GT, a two-seat sports car that can reach 205 mph but will set you back $440,000. Roger Burdick Porsche will have one for sale. You'll have to wait until 2006 to drive it off the lot but Burdick will take your order now - first come, first serve, says George Miro, Porsche sales specialist at the Cicero dealership. A $30,000 deposit will be needed.
Porsche is building about 1,500 Carrera GTs, with up to onehalf of them bound for U.S. dealers. The bigger dealers in larger cities will get more cars and get them first, says Miro.
The Carrera GT is built like a race car - it's made of carbon-fiberreinforced plastic - but made street legal. The car's 5.7 liter, V-10 engine cranks out more than 600 horsepower. The Carrera GT, featuring a six-speed manual transmission, can go from zero to 62 mph (100 km/hour) in 3.9 seconds, and from zero to 124 mph (200 km/hour) in 9.9 seconds.
