BINGHAMTON - On June 6, Hallstead, Pa.-based Peoples National Bank opened a new branch in the Town of Chenango, north of Binghamton. It's Peoples Bank's third branch in New York State and 10th overall.

The bank is utilizing 2,310 10 square feet of leased space at 1235 Front St., Suite 1, in the Kost Plaza.

The branch features an ATM in the lobby, two teller stations for the drive through lanes, three indoor teller lines, and a handicapaccessible teller station, Stacie Barrett, marketing manager, says.

Peoples National Bank entered New York State in 2003, when it opened an office in Conklin. It added a new branch in Deposit this past May, Barrett says. With the Hallstead headquarters just seven miles over the state border, establishing branches in New York seemed to be a necessary move to ensure customer convenience, Barrett says.

"The new branch in Binghamton was a natural progression,'' Barrett says. "A lot of people live and work between Binghamton and our headquarters in Hallstead."

The Binghamton branch has seven employees, including Jason Miller, manager, and Kellyann Truesdale, commercial services officer. Peoples National Bank employs 123 bank-wide, Barrett says.

In 2004, Peoples National Bank's total assets reached $379 million, total deposits were at $275 million, and net income totaled $4.5, million. As of May 31, 2005 , the bank serviced 41,050 accounts in New York and Pennsylvania.
