DeWITT - The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has recognized Anaren, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANEN), a manufacturer of components for the defense industry, as the 2007 "Subcontractor of the Year" for its region II, which encompasses New York and New Jersey.

Tucson, Ariz.-based Raytheon Missile Systems, an Anaren customer, nominated the DeWitt-based firm for the award, which recognizes small businesses that have provided excellent subcontracting services.

"We are proud of Anaren's achievement. Being recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration demonstrates the type of commitment that Anaren has made to its customers as well as the community," said Robert Parra, Raytheon's senior manager of supply-chain management.

Strong sales in Anaren's space and de-: fense business unit helped push earnings higher during the company's most recent fiscal quarter, which ended Dec. 31, 2006.

The company, a manufacturer of networks and components for wireless communications, satellite communications, and defense electronics, announced its latest financial results Feb. 1.

Net income for the quarter was $4 million, or 22 cents per diluted share. That's an increase of 101 percent from the second quarter last year, according to the company. Net sales increased 21 percent from a year ago, climbing to $30.3 million.

Space and defense net sales for the quarter were $13.3 million, up 40 percent from last year's second quarter. The increase was mainly due to production on recently announced contracts.

In addition to its corporate headquarters on Kirkville Road in DeWitt, Anaren has facilities or offices in New Hampshire, California, China, and England.
