Women in Business Syracuse: Barbara Adams Henderson

CNY Business Journal (1996+), Jun 6, 2008

Barbara Adams HENDERSON

SENIOR ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

SENIOR WOMAN ADMINISTRATOR

Syracuse University, Department of Athletics

* What has been your greatest inspiration? The student-athletes at Syracuse University. Their accomplishments are amazing - demanding practices, tough competition, travel, academic demands, the development of leadership skills, and a commitment to community service. These inspirational kids will prove to be strong leaders in the years to come. I think we will all be in good hands.

* What is your advice to other women who want to succeed? Work hard, receive a good education, and then network, network, network. Become involved either on the job or as a volunteer. Treat people with respect and learn from them. Be observant. Be enthusiastic. Good things will happen.

* How is your life different today from how you imagined it would be when you were younger? My parents raised me to be a wife and mom. Then society did that funky 1960s thing and encouraged women to have careers.

* What was your first childhood job? I worked as a receptionist and assistant for a dentist.

* If a movie were made about your life, what would it be called and what actress would you select to play you? "Make Every Day Count," starring Katharine Hepburn.
