IGEN. ANN E. DUNWOODY was the deputy chief of staff, G-4 when she wrote this article. Her previous assignment was commanding general, U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command and Fort Lee, Va. Gen. Dunwoody began her Army career as the supply platoon leader for the 226th Maintenance Company (Forward, Direct Support), WOth Supply and Services Battalion (Direct Support) before becoming the battalion's adjutant and later returning to the 226th Maintenance Company as its commander. She served as adjutant at the U.S. Military Community Activity of the 8th Infantry Division (Mechanized) in Germany, and then commanded the 5th Quartermaster Detachment (Air Delivery), 66th Maintenance Battalion, 29th Area Support Group. She served as a professional development officer, and later assignment officer for the Quartermaster Branch, at the Officer Personnel Management Directorate, U.S. Army Military Personnel Center. She became the division property book officer for Division Support Command, 82nd Airborne Division, then became the executive officer and, later, division parachute officer for the 407th Supply and Transportation Battalion. Gen. Dunwoody served in that capacity in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia. She was the division's G-4 and then commanded the division's 407th Supply and Transportation Battalion. The next year she commanded the division's 782nd Main Support Battalion. She then served as the Army Chief of Staff's special assistant before commanding the Division Support Command, Wth Mountain Division (Light Infantry). Gen. Dunwoody served as the executive officer to the director of the Defense Logistics Agency and then became the commanding general of the XVIII Airborne Corps' 1st Corps Support Command. She was then commanding general of the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command. Gen. Dunwoody has a master's degree in logistics management from Florida Institute of Technology.
