Select a service shop before your motor fails

Electrical Apparatus,  Jan 2001

"Prequalify the motor service centers you plan to use before you need to," advises Lynda Butek, Brithinee Electric, Colton, Calif., in Energy Matters, a publication of the Office of Industrial Technologies, U.S. Department of Energy.

"What constitutes the 'best' shop will vary from end user to end user and, in some cases, from motor to motor," Butek states. She advises first to "do your homework," inventorying motors, then visiting several service companies, analyzing their equipment, including ovens and dip tanks, testing apparatus, and worker experience.
