Sempra Energy buys more Enron assets

Sempra Energy Trading of Stamford, Conn., the wholesale commodity trading subsidiary of Sempra Energy, has bought the metals concentrates business of New York-based Enron Metals & Commodity Corp. as well as the Liverpool, Englandbased Henry Bath Ltd., previously owned jointly by Enron and Dipankar Ghosh of PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the joint administrators of Enron Europe. The metals concentrates business, to be renamed Sempra Metals Concentrates, is a global trader of copper, lead, and zinc concentrates. Henry Bath Ltd. stores about 18% of nonferrous metals held in London Metals Exchange-approved warehouses. As noted in last month's "Utility Briefs" (page 13), Sempra Energy recently bought London-based Enron Metals Ltd., a metals-brokering business bought by Enron in 2000.

KeySpan Corporation replaces Arthur Andersen

KeySpan Corp., the New York utility based in Brooklyn and Hicksville, N.Y., has joined the roster of clients dropping Arthur Andersen LLP as independent public accountants. Andersen has been replaced by Deloitte & Touche LLP. The decision "was not the result of any disagreement between the company and Arthur Andersen on any matter of accounting principles, practices, or financial disclosure," according to KeySpan.
