When time equals money
Electrical Apparatus, Feb 2004
Managers know there are never enough hours in the day, but you can't afford to neglect the tasks that directly impact your profitability and business success. The U.S. Small Business Administration suggests that managers ask themselves these questions to help set each day's priorities:
* What is the consequence if I don't finish this task today? For example, a product shipped on time should be a high-priority task and not put off.
* How much time do I have to make this decision? If you're faced with a short time frame, it's a high priority.
* When is the deadline? Although it's usually wise to start projects well in advance and finish them early, your highest priority is the project that is due soonest.
* What's the most worrisome task? Start your workday by tackling the task that is most stressful.
* Can I delegate the task or ask help from others? If someone else can complete the task faster or better, consider asking them for help so you have one less priority.
