More about motorcycles

Editor:

I enjoy reading EA and consider it a very informative magazine relating to the electrical motor industry.

I was surprised to see an article concerning one of your readers who happens to ride a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

I also enjoy the hobby of motorcycle riding. The article was refreshing and interesting. It is nice to read articles concerning other EA readers and learn of their diverse hobbies.

In your article you stated that the Sportster was the first Harley Davidson made in 1903. This is incorrect. The Sportster model was not introduced until 1957.

In fact, Harley Davidson is currently offering a 2007 limited-edition fiftieth anniversary Sportster model to commemorate its debut in 1957.

The first model produced by Harley Davidson beginning in 1903 was powered by a single-cylinder engine.

The 1909 Model 5-D was the first Harley Davidson motorcycle to have a V-twin engine. It was a 45° V-twin engine with a displacement of 49.48 cubic inches and produced approximately 7 hp.

It is the predecessor to all Harley Davidson V-twins to date.
