Products and services on display in Dallas
Electrical Apparatus, Jun 2008
What to look for at this month's convention of the Electrical Apparatus Service Association
In addition to showcasing products and services from more than 150 vendors, this month 's convention of the Electrical Apparatus Service Association, being held at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Dallas June 22-24, will present a full schedule of technical, marketing, and management sessions as well as social events. Brief descriptions of many of the products and services being displayed appear on this and on 17 pages following. Every effort was made to invite all exhibitors to submit material for this preview. The information presented here, though incomplete, is what was available to us at press time. A detailed preview of the conference program appeared in the May 2008 Electrical Apparatus, along with a description of Dallas landmarks and attractions.
ABB, Inc., a world leader in rotating equipment, will feature its full range of low-voltage IEC motors, including ATEX certified hazardous-area motors, process performance motors for demanding applications, and NEMA motors for installation anywhere in the world, regardless of local voltage, efficiency, or safety standards. ABB will highlight its complete line of reliable and efficient medium-voltage motors for both NEMA and IEC installations. ABB will also feature its world-class line of low-voltage drives and controls for results-driven power and control.
A.O. Smith will display its new line of Century II motors. The line includes 1-200 hp, TEFC, 140-449 frame, cast-iron, EPACT and NEMA premium-efficient, severe-duty, and closed-coupled pump JM/JP motors. A.O. Smith's line of commercialindustrial motors includes NEMA, one through 400 hp designs. Also on display will be several A.O. Smith Century farm-duty motors and a variety of commercial-industrial motors. The Century farm-duty offering includes direct-drive and belted fan, instant reverse, auger drive, high-torque, and extra-hightorque designs. Additionally, A.O. Smith will display its new line of Juggernaut inverter-duty condenser fan replacement motors for commercial air-conditioning and refrigeration markets.
Advanced Coil Technologies, a manufacturer of form coils, will feature the quality coils of all types it produces, including: stator coils 6,900 volts and below, d-c armature coils, field coils, and specialty coils. The company is located on the U.S.Mexico border, in El Paso, Tex., which provides it with "a favorable labor market to be consistently competitive in price and turnaround time." El Paso International Airport allows fast shipments by air to all major cities in the U.S. Tremendous magnet wire inventories in El Paso allow the company to ship most standard sets of stator coils in 36 hours from receipt of order or same-day to 24 hours on overtime.
Advanced Energy plans to showcase its Proven Efficiency Verification, a motor repair quality assurance program that offers marketable proof of a servicer's capability to maintain motor efficiency during rewind. PEV provides documented evidence from a nationally accredited and independent test lab that proves a service provider's processes, equipment, materials, personnel, and procedures do not degrade efficiency during motor repair.
Advanced Rotors will be demonstrating its specialty, the repair and manufacture of rotors and stators for electric motors. The company's shop capabilities include lifting capacity of 20 tons with a complete machine shop. Its goal is to provide most repair quotes within one hour of a request. Capabilities available 24 hours a day, seven days a week include rotor repair, stator repair, armature restack, wound-rotor restack, pole piece repair, shaft repair and machine shop services, new laminations and bar-and-ring kit, and field restack of stator cores.
The Aegis SGR split bearing protection ring for protecting motor bearings will be displayed by Electro Static Technologies, Inc. The Aegis SGR prevents electrical bearing damage resulting from voltages induced by variable-frequency drives. It does so by safely channeling harmful shaft voltages away from the bearings to ground. The conductive micro fibers provide the path of least resistance and extend motor life.
American Hofmann Corp. will be demonstrating its economy horizontal balancing systems. Its Models 16.1E, 19.1E, and 22.1E are low-cost, two-plane precision horizontal balancing machines for universal applications, including armatures, precision spindles, shafts, pump impellers, blowers, fans, turbines, rollers, and other applications requiring high-precision balancing. Hard-bearing technology and forcemeasuring transducers ensure accurate and sensitive unbalance measurement.
Amtech Drives, a manufacturer of variable-frequency drives, soft starters, and power quality products, will highlight three lines of VFD's that provide full coverage from 0.5 to 1,000 hp, and 200 through 575 volts. The company's high-frequency VFD can provide output frequencies up to 1,800 Hz, ideal for high-speed applications such as spindle drives. Expanded readout capabilities simplify setup and operation and minimize downtime with thorough significant diagnostics feedback. A new generation of soft starters, the Opti-Torque, provides maximum security system compatibility with expanded I/O capabilities.
