Sometimes the Dragon Wins: Yet More Urban Folklore from the Paperwork Empire. By Alan Dundes and Carl R. Pagter. (Syracuse: Syracuse University Press, 1996. Pp. xvi 366. $39.95 cloth, $14.95 paper)
A fourth volume of "office/copier folklore" from the prolific team. This collection includes 150 items, many shown in multiple versions, grouped according to their focus on six themes: "workplace woes," folk speech and ethnic slurs, scatology, male genitalia, male and female sexuality, and folk wisdom on contemporary social and political issues. As in the previous three volumes, brief annotations remark on the topical significance and possible meanings of each item. The authors also note publication of cognate items in other collections, as well as the place and date of collection for each item.
