LED traffic signal modules as an incandescent lamp alternative

Institute of Transportation Engineers. ITE Journal, Apr 2003 by Iwasaki, Randell H

Caltrans continues to test new LED modules for inclusion on the LED approved products list. At this time, the department has 120 approved LED modules from 10 manufacturers on the product list. As stated previously, Caltrans' retrofit is nearly done, but it still will need modules for new traffic signal and ramp meter installations.

Caltrans uses LED modules to replace all incandescent indications but the department also understands that new technologies are on the horizon. Those technologies will be evaluated continually and applied where appropriate. More information on Caltrans' LED program can be obtained by visiting the LED Web site, www.dot.ca.gov/hq/esc/ ttsb/electrical/electrical/electrical_index.htm.
