ITS STANDARDS OUTREACH, EDUCATION AND TRAINING COURSES: CALL FOR LOCATIONS

Institute of Transportation Engineers. ITE Journal, Jun 2005

The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Standards Outreach, Education and Training Program has developed specific requirements for training venues for 2005. If your agency or association is in need of free ITS standards training, please contact James M. Cheeks Jr. or Aliyah Horton at ITE Headquarters; jcheeks@ite.org or ahorton@ite.org. A new course has been added for 2005:

IEEE 1512 Family of Standards: Message Sets for Traffic Incident Management

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 1512 Family of Standards specifies message sets for incident management communication among transportation management centers and all other centers involved in incident management, such as public safety agencies.

This course will provide participants with the knowledge they need to initiate or participate in the development of an incident management communications system in their home agencies, centered around the IEEE 1512 Family of Standards.

Participants will leave the course with a working knowledge of:

* The IEEE 1512 Family of Standards-scope, underlying concepts and how the standards "work" in an incident management communications system;

* The issues involved in incident management communications, covering communications between transportation management centers and other agencies involved in incident management, developed through an outline table-top exercise (TTX) conducted as part of the course;

* How to develop and mount their own TTXs in their home agencies;

* The issues involved in implementing an incident management communications system, developed through an implementation exercise conducted as part of the course; and

* How to initiate or participate in an incident management communications implementation process in their home agencies.
