THE WORLD SHIPPING DIRECTORY, 199>1999, edited by Maggie Eacott. United Kingdom: Fairplay Publications Ltd., 1998, $290.00.1,758 pp. [Internet: www.fairplay-publications.co.uk] This ninth annual edition of The World Shipping Directory includes almost double the amount of information previously given for each ship listed, resulting in a 36 percent increase in the total number of pages.

The new information includes the immediate ex-name along with current flag, loa (length overall), beam, draft, and the service speed-all of which complement the original fields (vessel type, the year it was built, deadweight tonnage, and gross tonnage). The directory is divided into 20 tabbed sections covering all aspects and elements of the maritime industry including finance, insurance, ship operators, managers, builders, lawyers and arbitrators, consultants and surveyors, schools, and port authorities and operators. Four index sections list companies, personnel, vessels, and advertisers. This latest version of The World Shipping Directory is an even more valuable reference and resource than its illustrious predecessors. With vessel flag codes, and ship operators-vessel type codes.
