America's Navy and Marine Corps Airplanes: Post-World War I to the Present

Sea Power, Jun 1999 by Price, Jennifer M

AMERICA'S NAVY AND MARINE CORPS AIRPLANES: Post-World War I to the Present, by Francis H. Dean. Atglen, Pa.: Schiffer Publishing Ltd., 1999. 416 pp. $49.95. [Phone: (610) 593-1777; Internet: www. schifferbooks.com] Dean acknowledges in his introduction that America's Navy and Marine Corps Airplanes "is not a history of Naval Aviation but rather a photo essay showing the changes in Navy airplane designs over the years." He includes at the beginning of each chapter a brief on the specific type of aircraft discussed-the chapters are broken down by mission category (attack airplanes, patrol bombers, training aircraft, etc.).

The evolution of Navy aircraft designs can be seen through the excellent photo selections that distinguish all 26 chapters; many of the photos have never before been published.
