Boeing JSF to feature ITT voice recognition

Sea Power, Apr 2000

Boeing and BAE Systems-a supplier on Boeing's Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) development team-have selected ITT Industries to provide the Voxware voice-recognition system for the cockpit of Boeing's JSF design proposal.

Voxware includes "a rugged, lightweight, continuousspeech device that permits selected cockpit controls to be operated solely with voice commands," Boeing officials said. Voxware-which incorporates "speech-recognition technology specifically designed and optimized for ultrahigh accuracy in the often noisy cockpit environment'-relieves the manual workload of pilots so that they can concentrate on other mission tasks.

Boeing has demonstrated the system's voice-recognition capability during full-mission simulation of its JSF design.
