USCG Greater Antilles Section Commander Visits St. Maarten Council

Capt. Douglas Rudolph, commander of the U.S. Coast Guard's Greater Antilles Section, was the guest speaker at the St. Maarten/St. Martin Navy League Council's dinner meeting Jan 23.

In his remarks, Rudolph offered his views on the past, present and future roles of the U.S. Coast Guard in the Caribbean and the work that the U.S. Coast Guard does in conjunction with the sea services of the Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles and other nations in the region, according to Jack Stevens, president of the Navy League Caribbean/Mexico Region. He also addressed the importance of cooperation between the Navy League and the Coast Guard. Robert Chauvin, head of the French St. Martin Coast Guard, also attended the event, and expressed hope for even better cooperation between the Navy League Council and the French St. Martin Community, Stevens said.

The council speech was part of the three-day visit to St. Maarten by Rudolph and his wife, LiIa. A 1975 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Capt. Rudolph has spent most of his career in the South Florida and Caribbean area. Prior to assuming his present position in june 2002, he was chief of the office of law enforcement, Seventh Coast Guard District, Miami.
