Sea Power, Aug 2005

The ScanEagle surveillance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) - developed by Boeing and the lnsitu Group - has completed two weeks of sea trials from the deck of the amphibious transport dock ship USS Cleveland. The UAV completed four launches and recoveries, as well as 68 practice approaches. Boeing was awarded a $14.5 million contract in April to operate ship-launched ScanEagles in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, specifically to provide persistent surveillance of oil platforms and terminals in Iraq.

The high-endurance ScanEagle also has been providing surveillance support for Marine expeditionary forces in Iraq.
