Paul Murrill A faculty member and past department chair at LSU's department of chemical engineering, Murrill could make difficult concepts easy to understand. He wrote one of the first textbooks on Automatic Process Control in 1967, and later cowrote nine other books on subjects including process mathematical modeling and computer programming.

After retiring from LSU, Murrill headed research and development for Ethyl Corp., and then became chairman and chief executive officer of Gulf States Utilities (now Entergy).
