ISA Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (CIMM) program

InTech, Nov 2006 by Sheble, Nicholas

Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanics (CIMMs) are responsible for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance. They are multi-skilled individuals whose expertise is primarily mechanical in nature as opposed to instrumentation or electrical.

CIMMs have a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in the maintenance mechanic field or three years experience and a two-year associate degree in maintenance or a related field.

These questions are from Performance Domain I: Maintenance practices

CIMM questions

1. Using what instrument assures a correct measurement with a micrometer?

A. Venier caliper

B. Different micrometer

C. Standard gage block

D. Scale

2. When is it necessary to take a pipe vise out of service?

A. When the pipe vise needs painting

B. When there is rust on moving parts

C. When the vise jaws are broken

D. When the chain needs lubricating

CIMM answers

1. A standard gage block is precise, and its dimensions are accurate. The accuracy of a block must be verified and certified by a NIST-traceable calibration laboratory. A facility will usually require all micrometers and other measuring tools check out against the standard gage block on a regular basis throughout the year. The standard gage block will go to the calibration lab for rechecking at least once a year. The correct answer is C.

2. The best answer is C, when the vise jaws are broken.

Removing faulty equipment from service to prevent personal injury is imperative.
