The Deal: Tyco International Ltd. has agreed to purchase Scott Technologies Inc. for $376 million in stock. The acquisition will give Tyco respiratory equipment products and services to its portfolio.
Discussion: Scott Technologies Inc. makes Scott Air-Pak self-contained breathing devices, air-purifiers, gas detection instruments and oxygen masks through its Scott Aviation subsidiary. Its primary customers include firefighters and aviation personnel and passengers. Scott also provides respiratory product maintenance and overhaul services. Scott Technologies' major customers include distributor Aviall and the United States government. Through a joint venture, the company also supplies fixed and portable gas detection instruments.
