Canadian Forest Industries, Nov/Dec 2002

- Weyerhaeuser Co. has selected Hayes Forest Services Ltd. to assume the harvesting operations for the Franklin Division of Tree Farm Licence 44, located in the Alberni region of Vancouver Island. Representing one of the largest harvesting supply contracts in B.C. history, the agreement calls for Hayes to take over as of January 2, 2003. Weyerhaeuser will maintain forestry and higher level planning control, and continue to own the TFL and the timber produced. Hayes will provide all aspects of engineering, road construction & maintenance, ground and heli-logging, sorting and log delivery, as well as become the employer of the 300-person Weyerhaeuser Franklin Crew (IWA). Hayes has also registered its environmental management systems to ISO 14001 standards.

- CSA International has appointed Randall W. Luecke to vice president, certification. Mr. Luecke has announced plans to streamline the way in which the CSA manages the certification process and increase its use of technology to improve efficiency.
