SOLE Awards Program

Logistics Spectrum, 2001

The SOLE Awards Program was initiated in 1966 at the then National Convention. The total awards budget for that year was $200. There were only three major awards that first year: the Henry E. Eccles Award for Academic Achievement; the E.J. Armitage, Jr. Award for Literary Achievement; and the Logistics Education Assistance Award, with additional awards for the President's Award of Merit and chapter newsletter and activity awards. The program has grown over the years to its current awards level of six major awards, awards under each of the Vice Presidents, and additional recognition for the chapter activities and publications at the international level, reflecting our emergence as an international logistics society.

A committee under the leadership of Charles Stroud designed the first awards. Today the awards are a reflection of the historical design merged with the development of new technology and materials.
